The Pain of Ripping Off History's Blindfold
There's a deep disgust, an existential nausea, that hits you when you realize your moral compass was manufactured in history's slaughterhouses. You were raised on bedtime stories where light always beats darkness. And you, with the docility of a herd walking to the slaughter, believed them. The moralists spit their favorite line in your face: "Those who don't know history are doomed to repeat it".
It sounds like a life preserver, a warning full of compassion. But it's a trap. It's the sedative illusion that the past is a block of marble carved with the "Truth." What nobody had the nerve to tell you is that the history they force-feed you isn't a record of facts. It's the blood-stained last will of whoever had the fewest scruples about winning.
The Mass Grave of "Absolute Truth"
Feel this for a second: under every monument to the "hero" you worship today, there's a mass grave of silenced voices. And this is where reality slaps you with the second adage, the one that separates masters from slaves: "History is written by the victors". Stop right there. Chew on that. It means the textbook you read, the documentary that moves you, the narrative your country defends... all of it was written on top of the enemy's corpse.
We're terrified of looking at the other side of the coin because it hurts. It hurts to accept that the "villain," that heartless monster you were taught to hate, was just an individual whose view of the world threatened the winner's status quo. In his own mind, the villain was also his people's savior. He mourned his dead, bled for his ideals and loved his cause as fiercely as the plastic hero the movies sold you. Maybe more.
The hero is just a butcher who was lucky enough to survive and hire the best poets. The villain is the visionary who dared to lose everything, even the right to be remembered as human.
If you only look at one side of the coin, if you swallow the official story without chewing, you're not "learning from history." You're letting a ghost put a leash around your neck. You're a blind fanatic, an emotional pawn. Real sovereignty, real power, comes from the painful act of dissecting both versions.
You have to get inside the monster's head. You have to understand how the atrocity was justified. Not so you can forgive it from the comfort of your pathetic collective morality, but so you can understand the raw architecture of power.
Seeing both sides of history is an act of violence against your own innocence. It strips away the comfort of "good guys" and "bad guys." It leaves you alone, out in the cold, knowing that the world runs on nothing but one will imposing itself on another. But in that brutal solitude, in the pain of knowing you've been lied to your whole life, real ambition is born. When you stop seeing history as a morality tale and start reading it as a forensic manual of tactics and manipulation, you become untouchable.
Rip off the blindfold. It's going to hurt. You're going to bleed prejudices, and you're going to feel the floor give way. But it's better to walk on broken glass with your eyes open than to sleep on a bed of roses while someone cuts your throat in the name of the "greater good." Whoever clings to a single story is destined to be collateral damage in someone else's. Write your own, and make sure you're the one holding the pen... or the knife.
Final Words
Want to stop repeating mistakes? Then stop believing fairy tales about the past. History is a loaded gun. If you don't know who's holding it and who the bullet was meant for, the next corpse in the story will be you.
Ambition demands that you see the mud on the knight's armor and the vision in the tyrant's eyes. Only then will you be free to write your own story without a ghost dictating it to you.
The PRAXMA mindset |
The hero saves you today and collects your soul tomorrow. The villain at least had the decency to warn you he was coming. Choose your teacher.
